6 Resident Evil 4 Remake tips to know before starting the game

Resident Evil 4 Remake, the reinvention of Capcom’s survival horror masterpiece, has been finally released. Whether you’re a long-time fan of the game who has forgotten its mechanics or a newcomer to the franchise altogether, here are some tips that will aid you in your fight against Las Plagas.

Upgrade the knife and learn to parry

Unlike the original Resident Evil 4, the remake doesn’t have any quick-time events and instead the knife, in a way, can be used as your main weapon.

Now of course guns must also be given priority, but the parrying mechanic (which you need a knife for) is a vital part of combat in Resident Evil 4.

Most enemies in the game do melee attacks and some projectiles like axes, can be parried. Therefore, you will be using the knife a lot of times during your playthrough. Since the knife has durability in the remake, it’s a good idea to upgrade it.

Have a pistol on you at all times

Pistols might not be the best when it comes to mowing down enemies but you cannot deny they are useful.

There is abundant ammo for handguns/pistols in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Also, crafting pistol ammo is not resource intensive at all, and you can shoot enemies from a good distance making pistols reliable weapons.

You can shoot projectiles

Plenty of enemies in Resident Evil 4 Remake shoot projectiles. You will be in situations where you will have to face dynamites, Molotov cocktails, torches, or axes (as mentioned earlier).

Furthermore, you won’t always be able to evade quickly enough and might even be low on health. In such predicaments, you can simply shoot the projectiles to avoid getting hit by them.

In fact, projectiles like dynamites and Molotov cocktails explode when shot so it’s a good idea to shoot them when they are close to the enemies.

Shoot crows and other animals

While on the topic of shooting things, it’s a good idea to shoot crows as they drop some Pesetas. Fish can be shot (or stabbed) and used as health items.

Chickens will lay eggs if you wait long enough, which you can consume for a little bit of health.

Mix herbs to save space

If you’re new to the game then you should know that you can mix herbs in your inventory to save space. Moreover, the red and yellow herbs are useless unless mixed with each other.

Furthermore in Resident Evil 4 Remake, it has become easier to combine herbs. Unlike before where you would have to select a herb, open the menu and choose the option to combine with other herbs, this time around you can just drag and drop the herbs onto each other to combine them.

Avoid points of no return

If you are trying to complete all the side activities like completing all the requests and getting all the collectibles in a single run, you wouldn’t want to accidentally start something after which all the side activities become inaccessible.

To avoid this, interact with the merchant and he will warn you of these points of no return.
