Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Everything we know about the game

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, scheduled for release on February 29, 2024, is the upcoming sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake and the second installment in a planned trilogy remaking the iconic 1997 game.

Developed and published by Square Enix, this title is set to launch exclusively on the PlayStation 5, bringing with it a host of new features and enhancements.

A demo is available to play on PlayStation 5 right now.

The 2nd part of the demo, the Junon area episode, will be available after an update on February 21, 2024 and can be accessed after completing the Nibelheim episode.

Here’s everything we know so far.

Story and setting

The narrative of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth picks up where the first game left off, with Cloud and his companions escaping the city of Midgar.

They embark on a journey across the world in pursuit of Sephiroth, a fallen hero and a haunting figure from Cloud’s past.

This quest will lead them to “The Forgotten Capital” and deeper into the rich lore of the Final Fantasy VII universe.

Gameplay and features

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is expected to feature a blend of action and strategic combat, with the addition of new team-based abilities.

The battle system combines flashy, action-packed fights with slower, strategic battles, catering to a diverse range of playstyles. Players will engage in combat using normal attacks to fill their ATB gauge, which is required for using abilities and spells.

The game will also include various minigames, like G-Bike, Chocobo Races, and a 3D Brawler, adding unique elements of fun beyond the main storyline.
