Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is an upcoming game in the Like a Dragon series (formerly known as Yakuza), scheduled for release on January 26, 2024.
It is developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega, and will be available on multiple platforms including PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
The game is a direct follow-up to Yakuza: Like a Dragon and continues the adventures of Ichiban Kasuga alongside the legendary Dragon of Dojima, Kiryu Kazuma.
Here’s everything we know about it so far.
The game’s story unfolds after the events of Yakuza 7, with Ichiban settling into a new life in Ijincho.
An unexpected turn of events leads him to Hawaii in search of his long-lost mother, Akane.
The narrative promises a mix of intrigue and drama, involving a malevolent VTuber and gangs targeting Ichiban.
Continuing the turn-based RPG gameplay introduced in the previous game, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth further refines this system.
Players can strategically position their characters during battles, and Kiryu has a unique gameplay mechanic where he breaks from the turn-based system to engage enemies using his signature fighting styles.
The game also features the return of the Poundmates system and various mini-games, including a new Sujimon Battle side activity inspired by Pokemon.
New Classes and characters
The game introduces new classes like Samurai, Desperado, Geodancer, and Pyrodancer.
Familiar faces from the previous installment, such as Tianyou Zhao, Koichi Adachi, Yu Nanba, Joongi Han, and Saeko Mukoda, return alongside new characters like Seonhee, Chitose Fujinomiya, and Eric Tomizawa.
For the first time in the series, the primary setting of the game is outside Japan, in Hawaii.
This change of scenery brings new dynamics and exploration opportunities for players.
Development and preorder information
Developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and SEGA, the game features high-quality visuals and immersive storytelling.
Players can choose from standard, deluxe, or ultimate edition preorders, each offering unique content and bonuses.
The Special Job Set and Hero’s Booster Pack are among the preorder bonuses available.
The game’s expansive Honolulu map, being three times larger than Yokohama, promises a diverse gaming experience.
The game is also set to be the longest in the series, offering a “monster-class” experience in terms of content and length.
