PlayStation Showcase 2023: All major announcements

Sony’s PlayStation Showcase 2023 revealed many new games including highly anticipated ones like Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 and entirely new ones like the reboot of Bungie’s Marathon franchise. Here are all the major announcements made in PlayStation Showcase 2023.

Helldivers 2

Arrowhead Studios announced a sequel to their 2015 hit Helldivers. The original had a top-down camera, but that is being swapped out for a third-person camera in the sequel.

However, the rest of the game will be the same as the original. It will still be set in the same super earth and you will continue to hunt down giant bugs. It will also have online multiplayer allowing you to experience its smooth combat and beautiful graphics with friends.

Ghostrunner 2

The sequel to the 2020 hit was announced in the consecutive year and finally has been unveiled to the world. Ghostrunner 2 will take players outside of the Dharma Tower and out into a world known as The Wasteland Beyond.

The game will be a lot like the original, in that you will be parkouring, and slashing enemies, but the trailer showed off an interesting addition to the game. Motorcycle(s). You will be able to ride motorcycles, though it is unclear to what extent.

Dragon’s Dogma 2

The original Dragon’s Dogma was beloved by fans, though, in terms of popularity, it didn’t reach the level of Skyrim. However, it is considered one of the best action RPGs ever made.

So naturally, when Capcom announced the sequel last year, fans of the original were ecstatic, and almost a year later we finally got a look at Dragon’s Dogma 2. The similarities to the first game are apparent with its epic-looking magic and beautiful world. It is set to launch next year on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PS5.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Remake

Konami is hopping on the remake bandwagon by announcing a remake of one of, if not the best game, in the Metal Gear Solid franchise. The remake won’t be called Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, however, and will instead be called, Metal Gear Solid ∆: Snake Eater.

A release date is yet to be revealed, but Konami has announced Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection which will contain Metal Gear Solid 1,2, and 3 is set to release this fall.

Assassin’s Creed: Mirage release date

Ubisoft finally showed off a bit of gameplay from the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. By the looks of it, there seem to be a lot of similar elements to the older Assassin’s Creed games, so expect more stealth-focused action and fewer RPG elements.

A release date was also unveiled and the game will be coming out on October 12 this year.

Bungie’s Marathon

For those who don’t know, Marathon was a popular game franchise similar to the Halo games at the time. However, the reboot will be quite different as it won’t have a single-player campaign and instead is a multiplayer extraction shooter.

The game will have cross-play and cross-save across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Spider-Man 2 extended gameplay

Perhaps what most fans are excited about, Spider-Man 2 got an extended gameplay showcase. It was the longest showcase in the entire event.

It focuses on Peter Parker who is infected by a symbiote, Kraven the Hunter, who is seemingly after Dr. Kurt Conners aka the Lizard, and Miles Morales, who, along with Peter Parker, are trying to stop Lizard’s rampage.

The gameplay showed off bits of the Spider-Men’s abilities and is worth a watch if you haven’t watched it already. A concrete release date is still unknown, but the game will release during the fall.
