What to expect from the upcoming strategy game Dune: Spice Wars

Dune: Spice Wars is a time strategy game with 4X elements, from the developers of the critically acclaimed Northgard.

Game setting

Set in the Dune universe on the desert planet of Arrakis, the player must lead their faction towards control and dominance over the planet’s resources.

In the world of Dune, spice is the most valuable resource, it extends life, expands consciousness, and makes interstellar travel possible. The player can choose one of the four main factions: House Atreides, House Harkonnen, the Smugglers, and the native Fremen, to compete for power over Dune and the spice.

Features and Gameplay

The player can choose to play in several ways, by outwitting opponents through political intrigue, crushing them in combat, or undermining them with a network of elusive spies.

The main features of the game are exploring the planet with ornithopters to discover resources, villages, and points of interest, expanding the empire with troops to take control over more regions, and exploiting the resources through buildings and spice harvesters to dominate the economy

Being a strategy game, there is a strong emphasis on diplomacy and tactics. Taking over regions by using force can lead to plot changes, and by teaming up with different factions the enemies can ally themselves with each other which can result in all-out wars.

Each faction will have its own set of skills, abilities, and a particular set of requirements in order to survive. The four main factions are the Fremen, the Smugglers, the house of Harkonnen, and the house of Atreides.

Unlike other strategy games, Dune: Spice Wars has players battling on one big map, rather than multiple smaller sites. The developers have said that another faction will be added post-release of the game.

Dune: Spice Wars will be released exclusively for PC on early access on the 26th of April. What do you wish to see in Dune? Let us know down in the comments below.
