‘The Wolf Among Us 2’ delayed to avoid crunch time

Telltale Games, the developers of The Wolf Among Us announced that the sequel for the same game will be delayed again for a number of reasons and is now going to come out in 2024.

Jamie Ottilie, the CEO of Telltale Games told in an interview with IGN that the decision to delay The Wolf Among Us 2 was made to avoid crunch time and the burnout of employees.

He further said: “Making games is difficult and they need time to be right, and it doesn’t do any of us any good to ship something that’s not ready. I’ve done [crunch], and I don’t want to do it again, and it’s not fair to ask it.

“You can’t plan a business around it. So yeah, part of it is about maintaining a healthy work culture. We don’t want to burn out our good people. It has been incredibly difficult to recruit in the last two years between COVID and the labor markets and the growth in the games industry. So certainly, burning people out or grinding them down is the wrong thing to do long-term. It’s not how you build a business. And as an industry, we’re terrible about it.”

He also said that the engineers and artists wanted to switch from developing the game on Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5, as the latter has a bunch of features that make it worth switching to despite having to redo some of the work.

Based on Bill Willingham’s Fables comic book series and acting as a prequel to it, The Wolf Among Us is an episodic graphic mystery game. The first part comprised five episodes which were released between 2013 and 2014.
